I trade too much

What to do now

Count today's trades and mark which were from your system. Stop at the planned maximum.

The number of trades is higher than your plan expects.

Protocol

  1. Set the maximum number of trades before the session.
  2. Reaching it ends the session.
  3. Before each entry: name the setup. No name, no trade.

Why this happens and what is dangerous

Boredom, wish to be in the market all the time, trying to compensate for a slow day, or the belief that more trades mean more profit.

Every extra trade carries fees, slippage and your attention. Trades outside the system dilute the ones that have an edge.

This is a practical protocol for trading behavior, not medical advice or treatment, and not a promise of profit.

Overtrading: too many trades, too little edge

The panel shows your own split: trades from the system and outside it, with the result of each part. When the outside part is negative, the message is simple: the system was fine, the extra trades were the cost.

A trade count limit is as important as a loss limit. It protects your attention for the setups that matter.

Questions and answers

How many trades per day is too many?

It depends on the strategy. Decide the number in the plan before the session and treat anything beyond it as a rule breach.

Do more trades give more profit?

Only if each trade has a positive expectation after costs. Trades outside a tested setup do not.
