I missed the entry and now chase the price

What to do now

Do not enter at market. Mark the setup as missed. Wait for the next one or for a pullback that your plan allows.

The setup worked, you were not in, and now you want to enter at a worse price.

Protocol

  1. A missed setup is closed. No late entries unless the plan defines them.
  2. Recalculate the risk to reward at the new price. Below your minimum, skip.
  3. Log missed setups to see how often it happens.

Checklist before the next trade

Why this happens and what is dangerous

The brain counts a missed profit as a loss. A move without you is hard to watch.

A worse entry means a wider stop or a smaller reward. The trade no longer matches the one you tested.

This is a practical protocol for trading behavior, not medical advice or treatment, and not a promise of profit.

Missed the entry: how not to chase

Late entries are statistically different trades: worse price, larger stop, same emotions. If they work for you, test them as a separate setup with its own rules.

The log of missed setups shows whether the problem is patience or the way you watch the market.

Questions and answers

Can I enter a missed trade on a pullback?

Only if your plan describes it as a setup. Otherwise it is a new idea that must meet the usual conditions.

Why does a missed move hurt so much?

Because a profit that did not happen is counted as a loss. It is a thinking error, not a financial loss.
